Mumbai, a fast paced metropolitan city where every second counts and everyone seems to be in a rush most of times. The one factor that urges the locals to slow down their pace is the magnificent sea. Yes, the Mumbai beaches are an integral part of this city’s characteristics and every evening, a lot of people head to the beach to simply live for the moment. The beaches in Mumbai are not as famous as those of Goa or Kerala, but they do have their own charm for its visitors. Even though many places are mentioned in many a Mumbai travel guide, beaches are sometimes ignored and not given the importance they deserve. Whomsoever it may be, but even during a brief visit to the Mumbai, it is essential to visit the beaches, which are undoubtedly very refreshing.
Many Hindi movies have been shot here on these beaches in the early 1980s’ and one can clearly notice the stretches of these beautiful landscapes in the movies of that era. Even today, many Hindi movies and commercial advertisements are shot here. Thus one can get an opportunity all of a sudden to view a movie scene being shot and maybe get the autograph of a popular actor. Although Mumbai travel guide books have descriptions and details about the places where movies are being made, i.e.; movie studios, but getting a view of something on the beaches in Mumbai is definitely priceless.
Here are some of the attractive beaches in Mumbai, where one can have a fine time walking and taking a nice dip in the cool water.
Juhu Beach: Very popular among the people of Santa Cruz area who love to go for an evening walk. The beach here is stretched pretty long on the coast and it has many small food stalls on the shore, where one can have delicious snacks or street food. However, this beach is not recommended for swimming or taking a dip.
Chowpatty Beach: Mostly crowded by families and their children, this artificial beach is at the end of Marine Drive. It’s clean and tidy, with a good number of food stalls to cater the visitors. Since, it’s on the side of famous Marine Drive, there are a lot of excellent restaurant too. This well-maintained beach is a perfect site of urban-nature mashup.
Marve Beach: An absolutely dangerous beach because of the strong current under the water and multiple hidden sinking sand spots. However, it is indeed very beautiful to visit if one wants to sunbath.
Aksa Beach: Perfectly clean and attractive spotless beauty among the beaches in Mumbai. The reason for this is the very less crowd of people coming here; mostly the foreign tourists come over here to enjoy the sunbath. A lot of restaurants on the shore make for an excellent lunch and snacks while the resorts make the accommodation available if one needs it.
Overall, for walking one may choose the busy streets of Mumbai or he may come down to the wet sand and splashing waves; it’s completely a matter of personal choice. However, it is very good to have an evening doing nothing, but just walking on the beach of Mumbai.
